Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis
To discuss Hypnotherapy, it is important that we first define hypnosis. Hypnosis is achieving an altered state of consciousness. We do this on a regular basis, naturally throughout the day.
  • While driving a car, and all of a sudden you end up at your destination, yet you cannot quite remember what happened along the way, nor taking the usual turns that you take each day
  • When meditating
  • Being so consumed in an activity, like drawing or sports, that everything else fades away
  • That space right before you fall asleep
These are all altered states of consciousness. These are all hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is the use of an altered state of consciousness, to uncover and address an issue a person is struggling with. .

The Conscious Mind and the Subconscious Mind
The conscious mind is the part of the brain that is responsible for logical and analytical thought. The subconscious mind is the part of the brain that is illogical, protective and emotional. The subconscious is also responsible for long-term memory. During hypnotherapy, we are working with the subconscious mind, while the conscious mind is in the background. Because the subconscious is protective, a person will develop habits, fears, and compensations in an attempt to protect us. Sometimes, these protective quirks are actually more detrimental than helpful. By utilizing hypnotherapy, we can update the subconscious and get rid of the unfavourable signs and symptoms a person is experiencing.

Conditions

Having gone in and out of popularity since the 1700s, hypnotherapy has been used on a vast array of conditions and symptoms. From habits, fears and phobias, to anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, hypnotherapy has been a long-standing modality. Compared to conventional counselling or psychotherapy, it has proven to be a much quicker form of therapy. Without the analytical nature of the conscious mind to interfere, favourable results occur in a brief period.
